It would seem that after I went to bed last night we all got a little bit of news. For the next 24 hours Zune.net, & the Zune Marketplace are down. We’ll pass on more once we have it.

Update: Looks like we’re back to business. All Zune services are back online. Yep, just as I reasoned there are no changes from what I can tell.

Note: A few of you have written in asking if there may be an update coming. The email sent out via every users Zune.net account mentions the service being down for routine maintenance. I’m sure it’s nothing more then that.

Back in 2006, I learned about a great music player from Microsoft, in fact I learned about it from this very site. Even-though I’ve not been as acting in the forums since leaving to start my own ZuneSpring, Zunerama has always been a special place for me. Anywho I won’t bore you too much. Here’s to the rebirth of a Zune icon.

I just returned from 3 days in Yosemite National Park. An amazing place that I will definitely return to when I have more hiking time. (I was there for a conference.)

Zunerama member ballbagcheese has quickly put together an intriguing little music battle for the community at large here to discover some new music.  Patterned after the annual college basketball tourney during march, the idea is to submit your best songs, putting them against other Zunerama member’s best, and discovering which one comes out on top via a forum vote. Should pose for a fun way to discover some new tunes with a little competitive flavor. We’ll be sure to post the winners, songs and users that submitted them, as the music tourneys take place month to month.

Also, Zunerama member Endless was kind enough to upload the .zpl (Zune playlist file) for a quick download. You’ll just need to download and place the file in your playlist folder, usually contained in your Zune folder. Zune Pass users should find it easy to download the songs from there.  You can download the file here.

Zune flash players are available in pink, red, blue, black, and green.

But whenever I see a Zune flash player in the wild, it is almost invariably black.

And store displays of flash players usually indicate that the black players are being depleted more quickly than the colored players. (I took the above pic while in the Virgin Megastore in Hollywood this past week.)

For all the color choices, black still seems to be the most craved Zune color.

In a fit of irrational behavior, my Zune MVPeep Grahm disassembled his Zune player’s touch pad to see what makes it tick.

In his excellent site anythingbutipod.com, Grahm has some shots of the Zune Pad’s innards.

Warning: don’t do this at home. It renders your Zune Pad inoperational..!

This is a four-and-a-half minute version of a new Microsoft commercial. It was released yesterday, on the web. I’m not sure if it’s destined for other media – perhaps a cut-down version of it will be aired on TV.

It’s drawing a lot of comments in our forums. What do you think?
