My Zune in the Olympic Peninsula (WA)
« on: April 10, 2008, 07:15:35 PM »

Just back from some rest, recreation, and rain at Kalaloch in the Olympic Peninsula.

On the way to Port Townsend, via the Keystone ferry.

My wife is a nut for sand dollars, and she found this near-perfect one in the first few minutes after we got to Kalaloch.

At low tide the pools are full of sealife. Great exploring.

The driftwood-strewn beach at La Push, WA

Kalaloch beach is full of cool beach rocks, and driftwood. We could see whales spouting from their blowholes, from the windows of our lodge - probably grey whales on their migration north.

Wow, just wow. Nice pictures. That makes me want to go to Yosemite (I loves me some camping).

I'll have to go to Washington sometime. I had a coworker move there a few years ago, and the pictures she sent were amazing. The grass is always greener (though I can't complain too much, I'm in Southern California).

Thanks for sharing

Driftwood beach reminds me of Glass Beach on Kauai. By that I mean, it's one of those strange anomolies. On the Southwest side of Kauai, there used to be a glass bottle factory and it would dump bottles into the ocean. The bottles would make their way back onto the beach, and be broken down (rounded edges and all). It makes for a cool sight. Different colored speckles of glass pieces, with black sand underneath. Sorry, just getting ready for my 5th anniversary trip back to Kauai in August.

This is my wife and I after we completed the Kuilau Trail (5 years ago). It was only 2 miles, but it felt like 15 because of the mud and humidity (oh and us not being in tip top shape, thus the fake smiles in the picture).

My point exactly. We hiked through mud, and it was a humid day (as is every day in Kauai). Thus the tired and fake smile.
