Really?! wow, pretty interesting:

Quote
The surprise this year is that we used a light inside color and a tinted outside shot that carries the hue.  The effect of the new double-shot: darkening the edges instead of lightening them (like last year’s treatment).

I have to agree with their choice to make red glossy. It's such a nice red. Like lipstick, or a red silk dress. It'd be terrible to put a matte finish on that... I'm so excited to see some close up images of this double shot effect.

Awesome, sounds nifty. I doubt it'll be as apparent on the black Zunes, but for the colored flash models they'll likely look gorgeous. I may yet get that red one! I really appreciate the transparency of the Zune design team; it's extremely nice to know why they made certain design decisions. Fun stuff.

The Zune should get an updated look for each generation.  The black Zune 30 looks great with the blue tint, and the brown Zune 30 looks great with the greenish tint, but the new Zunes would be a little boring to look at if they looked exactly the same.  Cheers to Microsoft's design crew for the decision.

Sounds cool, but probably won't affect me since I'm getting the black 80.

can someone clarify something...?

was the microsoft guy saying that the red zune8 has a glossy face... or a glassy metal back?  it seemed to me that he was talking about the matte metal backs... and, then, switched to talking about glossy red.

so, i'm not sure whether he's saying the red is glossy... or the metal back on the red is glossy... instead of matte.

does anyone know?  Huh

The red Zune 8 has a glossy face. The back of it is a matte metal finish. I'll try to find a pic.

so, the red is glossy AND has double-shot? or is it just a solid red?
