Zune Sales Statistics from Woot.com
« on: October 19, 2007, 02:19:32 PM »

Woot has posted tons of stats regarding their last Zune refurb (r0x0rz!) sale.  You can check it out here:

http://www.woot.com/Blog/BlogEntry.aspx?BlogEntryId=3115

Some notable points from the post:
  • Brown was the least favorite color, which came as a surprise to absolutely no one.
  • Over 39,000 Zunes have been sold by Woot.com since they started selling Zunes.
  • Washington State had the highest percentage of sales to their percentage of the U.S. Population, which could possibly suggest Woot's price is better than Microsoft's discount (probably).
  • 2.9% of the Zune sales came from GA.

Without woot... the Zune might have died out.  I would NEVER have bought a Zune at retail price but I would buy it at the woot deal.  Woot is really promoting the Zune by selling it over and over again.  Since I am a fan of woot, I just got one and wasn't disappointed.  And 39k zunes is a lot!  Interesting stats.

I'm not sure the Zune would have died out, but like you, I would not have paid $250 for the Zune.  At $99, the price was perfect.

Well, maybe not extinct but it wouldn't even be this popular.  Compared to other tech/electronic forums, Zune communities are relatively small and inactive.

The Zune community needs time to grow Smiley  A year after the Zune 2 release, I bet Microsoft will have a bigger standing.  One would be more inclined to buy a Zune if one has a friend or two with a Zune.  The iPod was just being released when in my finishing year of high school, and I didn't know anyone with an iPod.  However, I started seeing the things around college a couple years into college.

The article says:

"The states that showed the least love for Zune players were Mississippi, West Virginia, and Louisiana."

Once again, Mississippi finds itself on a list I'd rather not be on... so I'd like to add that I've got quite a Zune following going on in Hattiesburg, MS and Mobile, AL, and we're working on spreading the Zune love. Yay, Zune!
