Download: Audio file converters
« on: January 19, 2007, 03:57:20 PM »

The links below will get you software to convert audio files. Most of these have trial versions that can be downloaded; others are freeware.

Some of them are Zunerama affiliate links, and if you use those it helps to keep this site Zunin'.  Smiley

WinXMedia

From WinXMedia:

The BEST Audio Converter I've used is CDex it can be located @
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

CDex is a CD Ripper/encoder. CDex can extract the data directly (digital) from an Audio CD. The resulting audio file can be a plain WAV file or the ripped audio data can be compressed using an audio encoder. Such as:
Lame MP3 encoder
Internal MP2 encoder
APE lossless audio format
Ogg Vorbis encoder
The Windows MP3 encoder (Fraunhofer MP3 encoder)
NTT VQF encoder
FAAC encoder
Windows WMA8 encoder

In addition, WAV files on the hard drive can be converted to any of the above (and visa versa). CDex also supports many audio file tag formats like the ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags, which can be automatically inserted as part of the ripping process.

Cheers...

I use dbpoweramp (www.dbpoweramp.com), you can only convert to mp3 as long as the trial lasts, but if you download the wma-pack from codec central you can convert to wma without a trial (I have been using it for ages). I really like it and I can recommend it to anyone who wants to convert their music.

Are any of these perfect? I mean, will they work even with a DRM restrictions? I tried converting using Nero Ultimate and was told I couldn't because of restrictions placed on the mp3...

yes,our xilisoft converter's speed is fast, for it supports batch conversion.

Psh. Who are you kidding? Xilisoft is painfully, painfully, painfully slow. Sure, it supports batch converstion, but it takes literally a day to get through it. I started ripping and converting a Family Guy disc last night and it's still running. And I'm using the Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum is all-in-one, 300% super fast DVD rip software.

Xilisoft's Audio Converter can't be beat.  It's quick and reliable.  Their video converter, Ultimate, suits me fine too.
