The Zune Pledge
« on: January 11, 2007, 10:09:52 PM »

Okay. I've read one too many Zune users saying the same thing. "I wish I could use the WiFi feature." It's almost become a chorus.  I'm sure all of us have at one point, or on numerous occasions, flipped on the WiFi and did a little Zune search, only to come up with a goose egg.

As someone who has gotten the chance to enter the "social", and shared a couple songs with a fellow random Zuner, I can say the experience was thoroughly enjoyable. We both had big smiles across our faces from across the room.  I'm telling you, that random wild Zune encounter will be like music Christmas for both you and your Zune.

So I was thinking, being that we're few and far between, why, honestly, do we rob ourselves of a possible random Zune encounter by keeping our WiFi off to save an hour of playtime?  Right now, we're trailblazing with our Zunes, there's not a whole ton of us, and I think it's time we took on a bit of, let's call it responsibility to all those Zuners who are lonely out there, willing to share but unable to find a fellow Zune to share with.

So, I propose a pledge. Right now my wifi is on, and will be on permanently. I'm Zi-Fied. By god, if you are near me and search for a Zune to share your favorite track, I'll be ready to receive.  I'm asking my fellow Zuners to do the same. During these early days (which we'll be able to pine about in our rocking chairs many generations hence) we need to be completely open to the feature, otherwise it'll probably never really catch on.

Use the poll to show your support. Who's with me?!

Psst, for the cookie voters: Me Love COOKIES to share!

Perhaps I would if I didn't live so far out in the sticks. My chances of even bumping into an iPod user out here are relatively remote. If I were to go to a concert in Portland or SF though, I think I would most certainly keep it on in the hopes of that chance encounter. Maybe someday soon I'll be that lucky.

Same here!

So far I haven't found any other Zunes...   Tongue

Now I have a question for those who have been lucky to receive a song:  does the Zune makes any kind of sound when it is 'pinged' by another Zune?  I ask because sometimes my Zune is tucked inside a pocket and I'd have no way of knowing unless I was staring at the screen.   Huh

You know, I never really thought about it.  Every night I charge it up anyways, so it really won't matter.

WiFi on now, permanently.

Living in northern MI the chances of running into another Zune user are next to none so I keep mine off at all times, however we're going down to Disney in a couple of weeks so I'll make sure to have it on as we walk around the parks Wink

Far as I know, if you're listening to a song, the track pauses, and you're posed with the option of accepting the sent file. Happens pretty quick, and then you're back to listening.
