Time for some "old school" music suggestions (with a few newer players thrown in). All I believe are safe for kids in the back seat

"Take Five" and "Blue Rondo A La Turk" - Dave Brubeck
"Try a Little Tenderness" - Otis Redding (plus the kids will recognize the lines "Shrek" used)
"Superstition" - Stevie Wonder
"Family Tradition" - Hank Williams Jr. (especially for driving across Texas)
"Ramblin' Man" - Hank Williams (but not when you're sleepy!)
"Wabash Cannonball" - Roy Acuff
"Movin' On" - Hank SNow
"1952 Vincent Black Lightning" - Del McCoury band
"Hot Rod Lincoln", "Twenty Flight Rock", "Beat Me Daddy Eight To The Bar", "Mama Hated Diesels So Bad" - Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen
"Take A Little Piece of My Heart" - either Janis Joplin, _or_ Aretha Franklin's sister Erma's original version
"Baba O'Riley", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "I Can See For Miles" - The Who
"Powerhouse" - the Raymond Scott Quintet (you'll recognize it from cartoons)
"Take The A Train" - Duke Ellington
"Constantinople", "Make A Little Bird House In Your Soul", "Particle Man" - They Might Be Giants
"You Wash Your Face In My Sink" - Dream Warriors - catchy and very underrated hip-hop tune
"She Blinded Me With Science" - Thomas Dolby
"Fever" - Peggy Lee
"Step Right Up" - Tom Waits (especially in the pre-Christmas buying craze)
"I Want You To Want Me" - Cheap Trick
"Radar Love" - Golden Earring
If you have a little ballerina, I suggest the entire Ellington jazz version of the NutCracker Suite
Cowboy songs are good too: "Don't Fence Me In", "Ragtime Cowboy Joe", "South of the Border"...
Western Swing too but a little of Bob Wills "ah ha" goes along way, try Asleep at the Wheel

and a million more... but I'll stop for now.

When will we see a Zune-branded in-dash music player for car installation? (possibly with Sync technology but only if the exclusive with Ford can be worked around)?  See, I think the Zune brand should extend to cars and shelf systems (but maybe I'm crazy)

I cannot believe that in two pages, Many with Pink Floyd songs included, that no one has posted the all time Going 80 mph in a 30 mph zone song, Run Like Hell! Also would like to add Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider, Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional, All Right by The Traveling Willberries (SP?). Long walk by Jill Scott is good, if you need a more mellow, but not sleep inducing song, The entire 10,000 Days album, and Aenema album by Tool are good as well. Personal favorite song right now is I Don't Believe a Word by Motorhead. Check it out. It's incredible.

I picked out the best ones that are good for listening while driving (especially long distances) now granted, I know there a bunch of groups people will recognize and hit songs I left out by that group, but remember these are songs for the road and listening pleasure, also these are all good songs that most people will agree with, nothing too hard and nothing too soft (granted there is a bit of both.) I wanted to pick out songs that everyone would enjoy no matter the generation.  I highlighted a few that are really good songs that I enjoy and if you give the song a chance you may end up liking it.  These are all REALLY good songs but, again, I would like to emphasize the "glows" because I am not sure how many people have heard of the group and I am sure if they give that highlighted song a chance then they may end up enjoying that band.  Thank you.  Sorry I could not link them all but feel free to e-mail me or PM me, I check this site on a daily basis and we can share music via Zune Card.  THANKS!

I just went on a 5 hour road trip by myself, so my memory is pretty fresh on what music worked for me.
Here's some songs that put me in a great mood and kept my attention on the road:

1.  Baby, It's Cold Outside - Margaret Whiting, Johnny Mercer

2.  September - Earth, Wind & Fire

3.  Fever - Peggy Lee

4.  Blue Skies - Willie Nelson

5.  P.Y.T. - Michael Jackson

6.  Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles

7.  Ray of Light - Madonna

8.  Dancing Queen - ABBA

9.  Sunday Morning - Maroon 5

10. You Are the Sunshine of My Life - Stevie Wonder

I hope these songs get you a good start.
Love your website, by the way!!!
