120 GB Zune FCC Rumor/Filing
« on: August 18, 2008, 07:09:38 AM »

According to Long Zheng, it looks like we might be getting a 120gb Zune.

More storage will be a good thing.

That's pretty good considering the rumored pricepoint.

Zune 80: 229
Zune 120: 249

From what i see in that image that zune also has a glossy Black to it. The current black on 80gb is stale.

It'll be interesting to see if the pricing suggested in this article is for real. $299 seems a little high to me. I can't imagine that the Zune 80 won't see a price cut soon, similar to the cut the 30 had about this time last year. Or maybe this version will replace the Zune 80? I do hope that this isn't the only hardware update we see this year. Seems a little anticlimactic.

I'm so getting one the day it comes out.
I just checked my music library and it's 119GB.  Grin

Meh. My 80 is only a little over half full, so I'm good. I think the price point is about right considering it's exactly midway between the price and capactiy of the 80GB and 160GB iPod Classic, although it may help them compete if they can knock it down to the iPod 80GB price. I agree if this is the sole release it will indeed be anticlimactic. Hope this isn't the only trick they've got up their sleeves.

Wow, looks interesting... It does look like it has a glossy finish... maybe it's a case or a body shield... well hopefully we will find out soon!

Don't expect a price drop on the 80.  It won't happen. What MIGHT happen is another appearance of the 80 on woot.  But the firesale mania of the 30s last year will NOT be repeated with the 80.

There were warehouses filled with unsold 30s last year.  Inventory quantities of the 80 are much closer to consumer demand.

The 120 gig is nice and fits a good market  spot. If they want to gain some installed base they should price this at $250 and the 80 gig at $200 to under cut the ipod.

However the 120 gig doesn't intrest me , i have never used more than 20 gigs of my 30 gig zune. I want something that expands on the video and wifi capablitys of the current zunes.  Lets hope MS understands that and puts out something new this year , otherwise I might just have to go with an ipod touch in the end.

Anybody else notice that the Zune Pad on that 120GB Zune is no longer a "squircle"? It looks a bit skinnier than it is tall. Also, that Zune looks very nice in the shiny black, although the Apple nerds are going to b*tch about MS copying Apple again by going with shiny doubleshot instead of matte.

It's still a squircle. That pic is distorted.

Well I certainly am not holding my breath for this "rumored" new Zune.  I agree a 120 gb device would be a nice fit, but it needs to have something more than just 40 gb more than the 80, don't you think?
My big worry right now is, as the Zune grows with new devices and such, will the early users with perfectly good 30's eventually get shorted on new features?

Perhaps they will phase out the 80 in place of the 120? They're phasing out the Xbox 360 Pro with 20gig hdd by selling it for $50 off, and then phasing in the 60gig Pro SKU at the original $349 price.

It's interesting that they would want to release a Zune 120. It kind of puts a damper on the possibility of a new hardware announcement.
