Title: white:cotton as brown:?
Post by: Rod the Mod on August 30, 2006, 12:10:34 PM
Microsoft has been calling the white version of Zune "cotton" instead of white.
LOL. That really separates it from iPod's patented white!!!

Now, in this forum, we've been dishing a lot of grief about that other Zune color: brown.

Even if M'soft sticks with that color, you'd think they'd come up with a better term to describe it.

You know, like "earth" or something like that.

Are M'soft's marketeers asleep at the wheel?

i have to agree... the color names stink.

"chocolate" might've been a good name for the brown one... if verizon weren't already selling that sleek black "chocolate" phone/mp3 player already.

what microsoft should've done is come out with six colors... black, white, and the four colors of the microsoft logo.

Call it anything but "brown".

I can see it now:

Zune: comes in your choice of black, cotton, or paper bag.

If they play with the pigment a bit, maybe it could be "copper" or "bronze". That might up the cool quotient.

'Course, when it comes right down to it...
   it's all still brown.

Did anyone else see the Zune haiku post, that someone sent in from Zunerama:

It drives me crazy.
Ev'ryone thinks iPod's cool.
Hey, Zune comes in brown!

A classic. It's on the zuneinsider site.

I saw that haiku on insider. There are some good ones there - and a lot of terrible ones too.

Here's my attempt, for your critical review:

        Zune: the first player
     that's especially designed
         for the color-blind.

For the younger, sk8trboy set, how 'bout:

  "Zune. Available now in pavement black, sidewalk white, and scraped-off-your-shoe brown."

When I first heard cotton, I thought that maybe it was an attempt to be politically correct! If that's the case, maybe the colours should be Caucasian, African American and Native American. Maybe this is Microsoft's way of broadening their selling horizons!

That one kills me. I nominate it for slogan of the week. :)

hypothetically, I think they should be called.....

Onyx = black
Cotton = White
Coffee = brown

ideal names would of been.....

Black = Chocolate
White = Milk
Brown = Cookie

hmmm chocolate cookies and milk. ;)

What's the problem calling it brown when it's brown?
White is white, black is black, brown is brown.

When insisting they should have these "creative" names, it is like parents giving their parents these "kr8tiv" names like Mique, Allice, Yozephf, Qatya, ... anything that is normal except for the "creative" spelling.

And how did they forget to check the meanings of zune (http://www.google.com/search?ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&q=zune%20meanings) before they released the product? A meaningful brand name for sure.

I think the brown Zune is getting a lot more respect, based on the engadget, gizmodo, cnet reviews etc.

It must look pretty good in person... although I think I saw one review saying it looked better on his monitor than in person.

Still, I'm getting a black one.  :)

Okay... just kidding. That would have been terrible.

I'm going to get the brown Zune, I just can't figure out a good name for it.

Hehe, that would rock, and also make tons of people confused.

I wonder if I could put "1337" as a language i'm fluent in on a resume...
