Farewell to a friend

25 January, 2009 (08:57) | zune news | By: Harvey Chute

Cesar Menendez has been the public face of the Zune team since those pre-launch days in summer 2006. As host of ZuneInsider, Cesar has been an upbeat, knowledgeable and accessible front man for the Zune team.

Cesar’s blog started the same week that we kicked off Zunerama. Through the past 2 1/2 years, Cesar has been a good friend to me and a supporter of our site. I know it is through Cesar’s recommendation that I received Microsoft’s Zune MVP award the past two years, even though he never claimed outright credit for that. I will always appreciate him for that.

This week, Microsoft announced a workforce drop of 5,000 employees and, sadly, Cesar is in that unfortunate group. I knew these drops were coming, but am surprised and disappointed that a prominent Zune team member like Cesar was affected.

Cesar, I hope we see you around from time to time in our forums. You are always welcome here, as I know you are throughout the Zune community. Take care and enjoy the ride as you meet the next challenges and opportunities in your life. You deserve great things and I know they will come to you.
